Stressing the seriousness of the threat that the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses to human health, U.S. Rep. Drew Ferguson, a sponsor of the PASTEUR act, writes an opinion piece in the Washington Times calling for investing in AMR pandemic preparedness “before we reach the breaking point where we can no longer defeat infections.”

He propagates the idea of public-private partnerships to combat the threat of new infections in the PASTEUR act he co-sponsored, saying that “it would establish a subscription-style model which would offer antibiotic developers an upfront payment in exchange for access to their antibiotics.”
